I had heard somewhere red is the colour of romance ♥️ before going on my first ever date I bought a beautiful red dress. I remember being so happy and nervous. My insecure self asked him what made you ask me out ? 🥀He replied you’re really sweet and pretty and if you would just lose a bit more weight you would look so much better. He then went on to compare me to a friend who was thin. I came home flustered & hating myself. I threw my red dress and thought this dress made me look FAT and i never wore it again. Now, when I came across this red dress I thought of this incident, looking back I realise how far I have come. I turned my old pain into power. My bulging fat rolls on my arms, my prominent stretch marks , cellulite and many other features of my body were all the things I dreaded showing or even being comfortable with was a far fetched thought. I’ve had to redefine my relationship with my body during this endless quarantine. Something changed, something changed in me while the world was changing itself. I met no one, stayed in isolation, learnt things from scratch, heard less, spoke less, others opinions and judgments dint matter, what I would wear, what I would say, how I needed to behave what I needed to think - all these things vanished and I was left with me and my thoughts. It took the world to change to take a step back and rethink life. Over the last 7 months I felt like I found my purpose again which has given me the courage to be who I always want to be, I have been able to refocus my energy in proudly owning myself. Yes, I might look good in this picture but I felt like shit- I did not want to upload it but decided to here’s why — I went to my house recently and picked up few clothes to shoot in. I found this really old dress & I was so excited to try it on again and check if it still fits me andddd it did but it was so uncomfortable, tight and the buttons kept opening and the attached skirt kept coming up!
