Most effective way to sharpen your technique for boxing is shadow boxing. Also the one tool you have in your belt no matter the setting, you can start a solid shadowboxing routine from anywhere. 3 Tips how to develop chemistry / timing with someone hitting mitts with you for the first time: - Short and quick combos to get familiar with the timing of a new athlete/fighter/client - Watch attentively how they shadowbox and how they hit the bag before hitting your mitts. It will help you learn about their style and what type of work you will be doing on the mitts to compliment their strengths. - Spam the jab. Keep it simple.

One thing that I wish was explained to me from a coach when I first started boxing would be the difference in ranges. The small nuances in technique and strategy to be efficient and not waste unnecessary cardio in moments where I was being evasive, and contrary to that moments of bending my knees more to sit down on my power punches 📚 disclaimer, if you try to be too bouncy while sparring you’ll waste a lot of energy, and if you get caught by a punch while being bouncy it’s a lot more likely whatever you’re hit with will do more damage/ knock you off balance. Another disclaimer while we’re here, if you bounce at the same rhythm too often in front of someone with good timing you can run yourself into their offense too. Stay sharp my friends!

Boxing tip for leading with your back hand first. It travels from further away, so the art of deception works in your favor to maintain the element of surprise when leading a combo with your back hand.

I’m lucky to be able to have gotten my ass whooped in these LA boxing gyms for years and be able to pay it forward as a coach, and On Demand fitness trainer in front of the camera. I started boxing late when I was 19 years old, so I always felt like I was playing catch up amongst my peers and that mindset of needing to get better just to hold my own and not get too many concussions in training is still what gets me out of bed and into the gym to this day.
