No one’s ever fed me’. He loves squirrels – he’ll chase them to trees and then just screech at the tree. Junior, Dachshund (3 m/o), Washington Square Park, New York, NY • “He likes big dogs. He’s a little skittish. We’re from Boston, so it’s his first time in the city. He eats everything off the streets – he ate a dead mouse already today. I saw the tail hanging out of his mouth, and I had to pull it out. He makes waking up exciting – every morning I’m excited to wake up and play with him.”

He likes to hug and kiss. His owner did a great job training him, and lets him run and takes him everywhere. They don’t know what he is. I’m convinced based on body style, fur, and tail that he’s a Longhaired Whippet. But the face is different – more like a Border Collie.” @holabrucee

Dandy & Mister, Italian Greyhounds (5 & 11 y/o), Madison Square Park, New York, NY • “Dandy is short for Dandelion, and we call Mister misdemeanor, ‘cause he’s trouble. He’s rambunctious – he’s 11, but he never lost his puppy qualities. They actually don’t love dressing up so much. It takes me a while to get them dressed, so they don’t have a huge wardrobe. Greyhounds are nice dogs – they crave a lot of attention, and they’re big cuddle dogs. They’re my little hot water bottles.” Does your dog have a minimal or an extensive wardrobe?

Archer, Foxhound (2 y/o), Madison Square Park, New York, NY • “He’s a rescue from Tennessee. He’s pretty embarrassing with treats – he spits them out. He doesn’t ever get in trouble, he’s actually a pretty good boy. My first dog was a Beagle – Archer is more boisterous and less food-motivated. My favorite thing about having a dog is I see the city in a different way. People come up and speak to you.”

Ranger & Bunny, German Shepherd & German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix (4 & 1 y/o), Bleecker & Charles St., New York, NY • “I’m their walker. Ranger is pretty protective of her, and Bunny is more outgoing with everyone. There have been times where she howls at passing firetrucks – she definitely sounds like a Husky. Being a walker gives me an excuse to go out more. I’ve always had a soft spot for larger dogs – my favorite is the Borzoi. I love how sensitive dogs are. They’re very comforting, they’re funny, and they bring a lot of life to a household.” @rangerthepolarbear

Olivia, mix (14 y/o), Spring & Sullivan St., New York, NY • “You photographed my other dog Rocky in 2018. I’ve had Olivia since I was 15 years old, so she’s my best friend. She’s a couch potato. She sleeps on me all the time. She snores like a bear. She’s the type of dog that’s going to refuse to eat until you give her chicken.”

When she was six months, I had to take a rat’s tail out of her mouth. I was convinced there was a little serial killer kid around the neighborhood, because there kept being disembodied animal parts.
