🐌 More than 30 years ago today, on December 10, Slow Food was founded. Since then, what once was a local movement has evolved to become a worldwide network of communities. Their local actions to change the food system act as one to guarantee good, clean and fair food on a global level to restore our ecosystems, our society and our health. 🙌 On Terra Madre Day, the #SlowFood network is invited to organize local actions and events to celebrate the diversity of our food identities and cultures and to hold them against the ongoing commodification and standardization of food. 🌱 The theme of this year is regeneration, as a reminder of the severe impact food has on the environment and our society, but also of the positive role it can play in recovering ecosystems and communities. We’re stronger together. Happy #TerraMadreDay! 🌍
This was day one! It’s even more magical than we thought it would be. We are here, in Parco Dora, Turin, until September 26! Welcome back, Terra Madre! #terramadre2022 #regeneraction

🚨The EU Commission released a proposal yesterday to deregulate #newGMOs in the EU. GMOs deregulation would remove risk assessment, traceability and labelling🧬 But scraping traceability means consumers lose their right to choose GM-free food😤 Earlier this year, a coalition of over 50 organizations handed a petition to the European Commission signed by 420,000 EU citizens, demanding to keep new GMOs regulated. But they decided to put agribusiness’s interests ahead of farmers, consumers and ecosystems. ✊📢We now call on the EU Parliament to reject this proposal! #NOHiddenGMOs in our food!
European citizens call for food system change!📢 In September 2023, the EU Commission will propose new legislation (SFS law) that could shape our food and farming for the better🌱 But an ambitious law can't be compromised by the interests of food industry lobbies😤 Sustainable food should be a human right, not a privilege. Join the movement fighting to make good food accessible to everyone✊ #sustainability #foodsystems #eu #legislation #gfgf

🌱🌍 Food systems do more than produce food. They create an intricate network that links communities and nature. If grown sustainably, this relationship can benefit both 🌿🤝. 💚 We believe agroecology holds the key to improving living conditions and welfare in our communities. It brings back values of equality, respect, and collaboration into the food system. Only then can farmers truly be in charge, free from exploitation. 🌾 Agroecology is the union of food sovereignty, giving people the right to decide what to grow and eat, and ecological principles that nurture the Earth. It's a powerful approach for a more just and sustainable world. 🔗 Learn more about our work through the link in our bio and join us in the fight for a future where everyone has access to good, clean, and fair food.🌎💚 #Agroecology #FoodSovereignty #Sustainability #COmmunity #FairFood

⚠️When talking about pesticides, do the interests of lobbies matter more than the well-being of citizens? Never! 📢We demand a strong EU law that heavily restricts their use to protect public health. Hundred of thousands of people get sick due to #pesticide exposure every year in Europe. 🕐The new legislation on Pesticides in the EU will be finalized within the next months. Now it's the time to remind institutions they are supposed to defend human rights and #health is one of them. We want a #PesticideFreeEU! 👉With the online widget at the link in our bio, you can send your representatives an email to demand the phase-out of pesticides📩 Defend our bodies, act now!
🧀The Slow Food Festival dedicated to raw milk cheeses returns to Bra from September 15-18, 2023! Join herders, cheesemakers and researchers from around the world as we take another step forward on our path toward #SustainableDairy 🥛 The theme of #Cheese2023 is the Taste of the Meadows, highlighting the centrality of pastures for sustainable dairy⛰️ 🐄Cheese can't be made without considering the interconnections between animals, people and pastures. The loss of animal breeds, rural depopulation and insufficient support for pastoral communities are just some of the issues that we'll explore at Cheese 2023. 🌱Agroecology is a holistic solution to these crises. Slow Beans goes to Bulgaria! The International Slow Beans network met for the first time in Smilyan, Bulgaria, home to the Smilyan Beans Presidium. Participants from Romania, Moldova, Macedonia, Latvia, France, Albania and Italy had the chance to meet local producers, join workshops, taste beans street food, visit a Smylian Beans field, and brainstorm together on the common challenges and solutions for the future. The meeting also gave the opportunity to launch the new Slow Food Case Study, in collaboration with @foodinsider.it and to present the #SchoolFood4Change project, both focusing on shifting public canteens and school meals towards more sustainable and healthy diets for all. Stay tuned for the next international Slow Beans event, happening in Autumn in Italy!
