And they’re up! Pretend you’re hearing that in the best horse race announcer voice. You can officially shop the Noir Collection on my website. I’ve been wanting to make this moody floral collection for years, and I’m so happy it’s out of my head so I can fill that space with existential life crises instead. The matted options (they come in black! or white) are 11 x 14 so you can pop them in any standard frame. The prints have all of my favorites - peonies, poppies, and dahlias 😍 Do you have a favorite? And for everyone who says that reels can just be simple! Use B-roll! This still took an hour of my life and 8 fun size candy bars. #flowerartwork #bloooms #floralinspo #thebeautyin_flowers #moodyinteriors #flowerslovethedark #floralfriday #flowerartistry #botanicalartist #inspiredbynature_

Last week it was raining at Trader Joe’s. A guy returning carts saw me get out of my car with the kids and yelled “Wait!” and ran to get a giant striped umbrella to walk us into the store. He loves the rain, isn’t it beautiful? Do the kids like stickers? Are they dressing up for Halloween? After I had to call the bank because my login stopped working. It was after hours so I was routed to a call center somewhere not here. The woman I talked to tried, but couldn’t help me. She blew her nose. “Are you sick?” “No, just allergies. Summer is the only time I don’t have them. Did you know even pine trees pollinate in the winter?” (I didn’t.) And we talked for 10 more minutes, because she reminded me of my grandma (and she could use a couple minutes of overtime). Last night I watched a video of a mother begging for her son’s return because time is running out. And another of kids who are bleeding and crying and hungry. And another of ghost town communities, where people shelter in place. I think of the people all over the world who hold each other in small huddles, hurting. I wonder about umbrellas and allergies turning into war and shootings. Maybe this is what happens when we stop noticing each other. When we see a label instead of a person? When we forget that we are all linked through this common ground. #peacequotes #naturewalks #instablooms #gardengathered #floralartist #flowersandotherstories #floralphotography #flowercollage

October feels like the perfect time to finally pull these black mats out of the box they’ve been patiently sitting in for two years 🫠 The Noir Collection - 4 new prints - 11x14 black mats (or white if that’s more your style) - coming Friday 🖤 I’m so excited to start releasing more of the print collections I’ve been talking about for years. There’s lots of things already in the works, but curious if there is anything you’re hoping to see?? #floralinspo #inspiredbycolor #inspiredbyflowers #moodyflorals #inspiredbypetals #justbefloral #flowerportrait #mybloominglens #creativeflatlays #floralartistry

Every time I look at this planner, I think about how it almost didn’t happen. When I got an email asking if I was interested in a collab with Blue Sky, my first thought was “I’m not good enough for this.” (My text to Mike, for posterity 👉🏻) I almost said no. Imposter syndrome and self-doubt were *this close* to costing me a chance to create some of my favorite pieces and learn so much in the last two years. Even if none of my patterns had ever made it to retail, just being considered has completely changed how I feel about my work and what I want to create. So if you’re in a similar spot of self-doubt, I think you should just go for it 🖤 My Peonies design for @blueskyplanners Artisans & Makers is available in select Walmarts (you can check online to see if it’s in your local store!) #blueskyplanners #floralfriday #peonies #botanicalartist #floralart #flowerlove #flowerpattern #doitfortheprocess

Do I ever use what I learned in Algebra II? No. But do I rely on my preschool skills of sorting big to small? Every single time I make a flower piece 💁🏼‍♀️ The basic breakdown is pretty similar to making a bouquet: 1. Pick your focal flowers. Who’s going to be the star of the show? Sometimes you just have one leading lady, like a Meryl Streep, but other times it works to go full Kardashian. 2. Get your supporting roles. These are the B-list actors. They give the structure. Usually leaves, sometimes smaller flowers. Can’t do it without them, but they aren’t making the cover of People magazine unless they pull a Travis Kelce. 3. Fill out the cast. I love using little groups of berries or leaves. These are like the groups of kids that were scattered around the stage during your fifth grade play muttering in hushed whispers. 4. The details! The tiny tweezer things that are usually seeds. Ok this one… we’ll say it’s the salt and butter on your movie popcorn. Everything falls apart without it. #flowerflatlay #botanicalartwork #floralart #cosmosflower #fallflowers #surfacepatterndesign #wipart #myfloralvibe #flowerpattern #artanddesign

Last week I got to hear @sharonsaysso in real life (maybe I teared up when she walked onto the stage) and that quote is what I’ve been thinking about ever since. She talked about how it is ordinary people who make things happen. Not presidents, not billionaires, ordinary people. We tell ourselves we don’t have what it takes - we don’t have the money or connections. She talked about a few of the founders, and how they were not deities, but ordinary people. “On his way to fight the Revolutionary War, George Washington bought a book about how to be a general. All of us are flawed and ill equipped. And it does not matter. If George Washington had to buy a book, imagine what is possible for us.” The courage doesn’t come in a moment when we feel courageous. But choosing hope is choosing action. It is doing something to put a tiny bit of light out into the darkness - a vote for humanity. One of the things I love most is how Sharon encourages people to do something, anything, no matter how small. Donating $1 to a relief organization. Checking in on your neighbors. Sending an email to your reps. “Opinions don’t change the world, what you DO matters.” Just. Good. Peaceful. Free. That is the kind of life that we all deserve to live.

So excited about this collab with @blueskyplanners for their Artisans & Makers collection! It just launched over the weekend in Walmart. I took the boys yesterday to see if we could find it and watching them freak out when they saw it is a new core memory (maybe we knocked over a couple boxes too it’s fine 🫠) I started making flower flatlays 7 years ago - when we only had two kids and they both napped (what a time 🥲) It became my creative outlet, and a kind of strange hobby to explain to people. I never thought I would have the chance to work on a project like this, and am forever grateful to Blue Sky for taking a chance on my art. I’d love to know if you see them at your local Walmart over the next couple of months! #blueskyplanners #flowerflatlay #flowersaremyfavorite #mybloominglens #botanicart #flowerpattern #flowerartist #myfloralvibe #surfacepatterndesign

I don’t actually say Autumn, but it has cuter letters than Fall so 🤷🏼‍♀️ Feeling sad that dahlia season is winding down, but my love for October has grown exponentially with my kids’ love for it. They make a daily pilgrimage to pay homage to our neighbors 12 ft. skeleton, cut out their own tiny Halloween decorations to tape all over the house, and practice trick or treating by throwing random food onto the front porch and slamming the door shut. I don’t usually dress up, but I had a bad laser hair session on my legs and Mike says I’m like a rare spotted frog now. Insta costume. Seems like a sign. On a scale of one piece of wax candy corn to all out Haunted Mansion, where does your Autumn/Fall enthusiasm land?? #dahlialove #autumnflowers #fallflowers #dahliaspam #moodyflorals #flowerartwork #flowerflatlay #botanicart #flowerpatterns #driedflorals #fallismyfavorite

Happy October from this little poppy with the hip pop and I guess the giant orange spider in the hydrangeas too because he’s orange and on brand. We’re calling him Garfield. Never had a hot girl summer but I am definitely looking forward to a warm girl fall. I’m ready for the blankets and sweaters and wool socks please 🙏🏻 #spookyseason #botanicart #mybloominglens #excessivelydivertedbyflowers #stilllifegallery #floralart #happyoctober #inspirewithblooms #poppiesofinstagram

I started my 100 day project in April of 2020 when I was 6 months pregnant. I thought it was perfect timing - I could finish right before I went into labor in August 😂 Oh early 2020 me - so naive, so hopeful. Something I’ve gotten better at (especially this year) is being more gentle with myself. I’ve picked up a lot of expectations over the years that I’m realizing don’t mean anything to me. Letting them all gooooooo. It might take me another 3 years to finish this. But I will. (Tangent, but sort of related? I have to finish every book I start. I physically cannot leave it unread. Are you also blessed/cursed with this??) #100dayproject #creativepeptalk #botanicalartist #flatlayforever #createeveryday #creativeinspiration #flowerstyle

It’s so satisfying. I always get a few horrified reactions when I ruin it (which I kind of love - what can I say I’ve been raised on clickbait headlines and shock value). And i always grab photos to use for prints and patterns first. Although RIP to the flowers of May 2021 that I forgot to grab a photo of before destroying 🥲 #floralflatlay #dahliaspam #botanicalart #dahliaseason #floralinspo #flowercollage #colorlove #inspiredcolorpalettes #flowersandotherstories #myfloralvibe #botanicalartist

The Fake Book Club No. 1 - Finding Me by Viola Davis @violadavis Welcome to the FBC! If you’re reading this, you’re in. I will read a book that people recommend and then share a favorite quote surrounded by nature-ish things and… that’s it. That’s the club. Maybe one day we’ll have snacks. It was so hard to pick a quote for this book - like pulling one thread out of a tapestry and hoping you understand it’s beauty and meaning singularly and as a whole. So maybe just listen to the book and hear Viola tell her story herself. It is like sitting face to face with her and hearing the most intense monologue from start to finish. It isn’t a glimpse into her life, it is a door flung wide open. I wrote a little more about one of my favorite moments in the book - the link is on my site under Behind The Scenes. Let me know if you’ve read/listened to this yet! Or don’t, since it is a fake book club after all.
