These dogs are absolutely amazing and deserving and many have been heart worm positive for a long time which is extremely dangerous. Once they complete treatment we will be making a plea for rescues, fosters and adopters. Until then we have started a fundraiser at the link in our BIO as the estimated cost will be $18,000.00 for all of them. Covering this cost and getting these sweet souls healthy will take the burden off of rescues and adopters which will help their chances at finally getting out of this shelter. We have featured some of them in our timeline and will continue introducing all twelve. While some have suffered horrific abuse they are overcoming their fears and trauma and could not be sweeter. Most of them are dog, cat and human friendly and would be a great addition to homes with other pets. These sweet hippos desperately need our help being seen and saved and we are providing them what is needed to be healthy. This is one of my favorite hippos and rescues of all time. SUFP shared this battered pregnant soul who was going into labor in a rural make shift shelter in Firebaugh CA. She was scared, had traumatic wounds and would be giving birth all alone. Upon sharing her two incredible humans with @busterspawprints immediately got in the car to make the 5 1/2 hour journey. On the way they got a flat tire. They arrived late and Hazel was giving birth. They loaded Hazel and her babies into the car and drove another 5 1/2 hours. SUFP provided a sizable Angel Grant to cover the care of Hazel and her puppies and this exactly what they got. @busterspawprints has remained dedicated to Hazel and now it’s long past time for Hazel to have a home to call her own. She has overcome so much. She is funny, loving and unbelievably beautiful. She is more than deserving so we are asking you all to please share Hazel. We want to thank all of you who supported our efforts and work to save this baby hippo, @underdogheroes_ for stepping up for Pancake when she needed it most, @mikeruizone for photographing her for the Hope Campaign, @lalindberg13 for advocating for her and her incredible foster mom @hanna_dol for opening your heart and home and fostering. Repost @standupforpitsfoundation Death threats and criticisms is something we deal with while standing up for pits because society is broken and people are stupid. But we will never let that detour us when real life monsters are allowed to walk freely among us. Law and policy makers refusing to recognize the direct correlation between human and animal abuse and how stopping it makes communities safer for humans and pets puts us all in danger. To ignore is to condone and the humans who commit heinous acts against animals come in all ethnicities, ages, tax brackets and demographics. So while this news story is about Skid Row, don’t think this is just a rural, inner city, homeless or “cultural” thing because it’s not. It’s happening everywhere and is everyone’s problem. Skid Row is completely out control and it’s time @mayorofla and @laanimalservices stop ignoring the suffering of animals day in and day out year after year happening in plain sight in the city they are paid to serve and protect. SUFP has been supporting Los Angeles rescues and city shelters for 14 years and neither the mayor or LAAS will reply to our emails regarding the living hell dogs are enduring at the hands of some folks on Skid Row. We were also told by a Los Angeles official “we can’t just take their dogs” when factually, they can. There are laws in place to protect dogs from cruetly, suffering, being force bred and sold and it’s their job to uphold those laws. Instead a ridiculous boiler plate “we are conducting an investigation” response has been issued. A third grader could see there is nothing to investigate because it’s not hidden. SUFP will still do our annual shelter supply drive for an LA Shelter this year at Stand Up For Pits and will continue supporting LA rescues, volunteers and shelter dogs because we care about DOGS and doing our JOB. Our hope is Mayor Karen Bass and LA Animal Services will join us in that effort because lives are depending on it and because it is their JOB. Some history on these 2 amazing pups. ❤️❤️🐾🐾 Rhett (left) was in a shelter in rural Louisiana for a year with heartworms and was very close to being put down. Rhett was made known to us by @aavarescue and through a post. @standupforpitsfoundation did asking for help for a number of pups who were not getting seen. We flew to Louisiana a week later, and he’s been at home living the good life since. Rhett intimidates most dogs, as he’s 100 mph all the time. He’s uncharacteristically calm around Luther. Luther (right) was left for dead on the side of a road in Alabama. He was shot in the head, had severe trauma, broken bones, and scarred from head to toe, as a result of being used for dogfighting by some piece of shit human scumbags. The great people at @bullockcountyhumane took him in and started the road to recovery. @standupforpitsfoundation funded his extensive surgeries, and @rebeccacorry asked if we’d be able to take him in. Luther was at our home a week later and has been physically and emotionally healing since. ❤️❤️🐾🐾 The meeting: 2 dogs, essentially left for dead, seem to have a deep-rooted understanding of one another. Luther should be petrified of dogs who look like Rhett due to his past. He is not. He actually seeks Rhetts attention. We give Luther everything he needs, as he deserves the world. In a situation like this, he seems to be getting something he desperately needs that we are unable to give him: the sense of security from another guy like him. This shelter is completely full and they have informed us these are the supplies most desperately needed.
