It’s a bit surreal to go from being shut out to seeing my org’s work featured in a top industry trade publication. I started my media company in 2008 at 19 years old. 15 years later I can see the reasons why @HerAgenda went unseen and ignored by advertisers. And in 2020, my cofounder Devon and I realized this is the moment to disrupt. It’s time to change the face of media ownership and ensure that people who look like us can own our story. This requires investment, and advertising dollars. And more than anything this requires brave actions. It’s time to move beyond the statements. The largest brands and agency holding companies have recognized the need to invest in culturally diverse content. But here's the harsh truth: simply pledging money isn't enough. The real challenge lies in building the necessary infrastructure to support independent publishers that lack resources and technology. Marketers must break free from their outdated processes and unlock the untapped potential of diverse content waiting to be discovered. A few folks texted me that Her Agenda was mentioned on @TamronHallShow and look at this moment. This warmed my heart! What really makes it special for me is getting a media mention simply on the merit of the WORK. For underrepresented founders most of our companies get media mentions based around very fixed narratives, so this was a refreshing surprise. @HerAgenda is a Black-owned media outlet and far too often companies like mine are only referenced in June, February, and when Black people are killed by some racist nutcase. Here, the reference is for the work: journalism that amplifies women which is what Her Agenda sets out to do. 🙏🏿
