A few extra comments on the brown and black watercolor pigments I own. (Full video of all the pigments I own are in on fb.com/LetteristaMNL.) . 🔹 Maimeri Blu's Raw Sienna: Super hard to work with, feels oily, and overall not great. You can see me accidentally smudging the oily pigment later on and coming back to try to fix it but the consistency is just impossible to work with. It dries with a semi-sticky feel. Will never use this. 🔹 Kuretake's Brown: A brown that's very red-cinnamon in color, and a pigment I use for cinnamon-brown bird feathers. 🔹 Kuretake's Burnt Umber: Because it's more deep and dark than the previously swatched Maimeri Blu's Burnt Umber, I tend to use this more often as a warm shadow tone. It works really well for this purpose. 🔹 Kuretake's Black: I believe it's the true neutral black, and I use it all the time because of that. I'm halfway through the pan and I have to find a good dupe before it runs out! 🔹 Maimeri Blu's Neutral Tint: It isn't neutral. But it's still a good shadow color – but only for cool tones. I think it's important to have good go-to shadow/shade colors for warm, neutral, and cool, and I'm happy I've found the 3 that work for me!

'Eye' always start my paintings with the eyes of the subject. It's the make or break part, and it's so rewarding when you're happy with it! ✨ This bird is a Spotted Wood Kingfisher, which is endemic to the Phililpines. 🇵🇭
