‘Harps and Hellfire’ & ‘Serendipitous Occurrence’ this weekend at @bvstudiosbristol I only have so much space to fit bigger pieces but actually I thought these worked well in dialogue together. So much great and constructive feedback about them in particular this weekend & I’m reminded of why it’s so necessary to get to show the work every once in while 💜

S E R E N D I P I T O U S O C C U R E N C E // Acrylic, Spray paint and Wallpaper on Board // 85 x 85cm // 2022 This year has been a busy one for me, so thank you all for sticking with me through the infrequent posting! Hours in the studio have lessened and this will be the new norm from me, but I think this is the reality for many artists. What’s a lull in production for a few years when the plan is to make works over a lifetime right 😌 Getting time in the studio is now more a blessing than ever before and I absolutely make the most of any and all hours I get to play and be creative. This piece was my first use of wallpaper within a work and I enjoyed the process of this one SO MUCH. What do we think? Feedback welcome 🤗👇

S O F T W A S T H E S U N // Acrylic and pastel on board // 64 x 122cm // 2020 This pretty little piece will be on show at BV Open Studios this weekend! It’s a piece that I finished in 2020 and am FINALLY getting around to posting it on here officially two years later. Why? Just felt like keeping it to myself for a wee while. I don’t really know. I get attached to some, this definitely being one of them. It’s got a vibe👌I hope you all like it as much as I do. ALSO, first Open Studios in two years this weekend!! I’ll be there in G8: Fri 8th 7-10pm Sun 10th (12-4pm) G8 will still be open for you to view Saturday, I just won’t be there to hassle you 💁♀️ General Studio open times on the next slide 👉
Hello all 👋 I’ve been a little MIA on here for a while and I feel I owe you all an explanation! I am still painting, but no where near the amount I once was. For those of you that don’t know, this is because I’ve gone back to college! Many of you that follow me are fellow creatives too and you guys know how hard it is to get work out there, whilst trying to support yourself financially. Many of you will be likely doing a plethora of jobs to sustain yourselves artistically. In my case, I’ve been halving my time between the studio and my job since uni, eight years ago! Takes a lot of momentum and self motivation when you see very few rewards. I decided this year that I wouldn’t mind going after a more rewarding role that would feel like I’m helping others. After all, if the majority of my working week is always going to be doing something other than painting, (which is a very likely reality) then I should at least make it worth while. I’m back at college and thoroughly enjoying it. I’m 31 now and engaging my brain in a learning environment once again has its challenges! The journey as an artist can feel a little bit like you have the right mode of transport, but nine times out of ten other influential people get to steer its direction, which can at times feel so disempowering. So, for the first time in a while, college is helping me feel in control of my future in a wonderful way I hadn’t experienced before (which is also having a lovely effect on my work)! It’s going to be my main focus for a little while, but rest assured I am still in the studio. The progress is S L O W, I’m getting maybe a day a week in here right now, but, I appreciate you all in advance for sticking with me for however long this process takes 🙏 Will still be going after the dream, just taking a different route.
Enjoying the Frank Bowling ‘Land of many Waters’ exhibition at @arnolfiniarts this morning… This afternoons activities consist of dreaming of the studio space to be able paint on this enormous scale one day✨📷: @jessbartlett_artist
