Nearly 100 years ago my Great Uncle built trails through this wilderness to guide guests to fish alpine lakes and hunt below these peaks. My brother Jesse and I read his stories in his memoir but the trails were lost to time, not on any modern map and overgrown beyond finding them. Then about 4 years ago Jesse called me and said he had found an old map at a cafe that was co authored by my Great Uncle. It wasn’t exact but it gave us clues of where the old trails were. He asked if I wanted to go explore and 4 years later we are still uncovering old trails. Watch my Old Trails story highlight to see this years mission to find the old routes.
One of my favorites from a shoot for Blundstone a few years ago. It’s not often I get to go have an adventure with @megsejohnston during a commercial shoot. This trip was special.
I am excited to share a project I’ve been working on for 6 months about Rancher Wacey Cathey. Wacey and his wife Brittany run a ranch in the same valley my ancestors ranched. It was an honor to tell his story and share what has become a rare way of life, even in Montana. Thanks to @dannerboots for supporting this story and believing in my creative vision. It’s a pleasure to work with great folks. Thanks to @calebstasko for being the easiest DP and making this film come to life. Thank you to the Cathey Family @catheycattleco for your hospitality and letting me take over your ranch. When I was younger the farm I grew up on was surrounded by 5000 acres of farm fields. Our family of eight could feel hectic and one of my favorite things to do was escape into the tall wheat on a breezy June day and watch the stalks move with the mountains in the distance. I would sit there and roll the wheat kernels in my hands while time passed in the most agreeable place on earth. It looked something like this.
Good bye spring, we hardly knew ye. I spent many nights this spring grabbing my camera to shoot the sunset, but more often shooting the abstract reflections of the sky in the river. Which sunset is your favorite? Happy summer everyone ☀️
Dogs vs the drone. The slo mo vs full speed is intense. Good thing these animals don’t want to get me like they want the drone.
I spent most of last summer building this bike, this summer is for riding it. I’ve had a lot of motos over the last 20 years and I can say without a doubt this big 520 is my favorite. The look, power and capability is addicting. Now is just need a 300cc two stroke bike to compliment it lol 😂 @samvitek
Diego at the secret family beach last summer with a driftwood floaty. I’ve always loved sharing my favorite places with friends. Seeing others have excited appreciation enhances the experience.
Argentina on point and shoot film. The mountains around Mendoza are the kind of place my mind wanders to over and over. I wonder what is just beyond the roads I traveled and what it looks like from the tops of the peaks. Though this trip was for a commercial project, I’m scheming to get back down there for a proper exploration.
There is a few new rides in the bike shed. I couldn’t resist going out to look at them when the light is just right. Let’s play a guessing game. First one to get the answers right (or make me laugh 😆) in the comments wins a prize (maybe a print or some outdoor gear). 1. How many motos in here run? 2. What make and models are the bikes. 3. Which bike is the newest to me?
Dropping in to say happy almost summer. Night swims are back and the sounds of the mourning dove sing me to sleep through my open windows. Anyone else feeling a lack of motivation to look at a screen when the days are this sweet outside? Ps @lumecube just sent me the tube light mini and it’s perfect to create magic light on the dock.
High water on the Swan River. It’s our ninth spring living on the river and I have come to look forward to the seasonal flooding of the pastures around the river. Beavers show up to nibble on branches and Great Blue Herons prowl the shallows looking for snakes and fish. Everything has a mirror of itself when the water is up.
