Holly Jolly Aachen Christmas Market… It truly is one of the most enchanting and picturesque Christmas Markets in Germany. Aachen is known for its gingerbread-like „Printen“ - especially for Christmas, but you can get them all year round. Local vendors sell locally produced crafts and OMG those potato pancakes! These are must try. Or have you ever had a mulled whine with Calvados? So many options to be merry during a visit to @aachentourismus during the festive season. #visitaachen #historicgermany #wearegermany #christmasmarket #deinnrw #visitgermany #discovergermany #printen

Standing 54 metres (177 feet) high, the Kröpeliner Tor is the tallest of #Rostock’s numerous city gates. It was built in the 13th and 14th centuries as part of the medieval defences. The four gables with blind arches in front of the intersecting roof with a ridge turret still characterise the appearance today. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #visitrostock #visitgermany #visiteurope #HistoricallyCurious #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel

In strong contrast to the intimate and rather modest Sanssouci Palace the large palace complex of the Neues Palais (New Palace) in #Potsdam served official, representational needs. Grand banquet halls, splendid galleries and regally designed suites, not to mention Sanssouci’s Baroque palace theater in the southern wing, await visitors in its interior. Select works of 18th century art and decorative arts can be viewed at the palace in their original contexts. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #explorepotsdam #visitgermany #visiteurope #HistoricallyCurious #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel

St. Mary's Church is one of the most artistically and historically significant buildings in #Osnabrück. The opulent decorations and the high wimperg signify the Brautportal's status as the main entrance to the Marienkirche. The figures around its frame represent the Clever and the Foolish Virgins. On the left-hand side are the figures of the five Clever Virgins, led by the “Ecclesia”, and on the right are the four Foolish ones, led by the “Synagoge”. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #visitosnabrueck #visitgermany #visiteurope #HistoricallyCurious #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel

#Münster cathedral in its present state is essentially a creation of the 13th century. Of particular note is the astronomical clock, a marvel of the late Middle Ages, with a calendar, which reaches into the year 2071 (carillon and revolving of the Magi). A few steps away from the clock is the sepulchral chapel of Clemens August Cardinal von Galen, the “Lion of Münster”. Pope John Paul II prayed here in 1987. A memorial stone commemorates this event today. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #exploremuenster #visitgermany #visiteurope #HistoricallyCurious #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel

In medieval times, #Lübeck owed its reputation as an important city to the success of its merchants. Holsten Gate became the proud symbol of the free imperial city. The city gate was built between 1464 and 1478 along the lines of Dutch models. It served both as a form of defence and as a symbol of the city’s prestige. Above the round-arched gateway entrance, the inscription CONCORDIA DOMI FORIS PAX (unity within, peace without) can be seen in golden letters. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #visitluebeck #visitgermany #visiteurope #HistoricallyCurious #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel

The Schängelbrunnen fountain is a symbol of #Koblenz and stands on Willi-Hörter-Platz, encircled by the renaissance and baroque buildings of the Jesuit ensemble. It was designed in 1940 by Carl Burger and is dedicated to the Koblenz-born poet, Josef Cornelius (1849-1943), who wrote the lyrics to the well-known Schängellied song, the city's anthem. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #visitkoblenz #visitgermany #visiteurope #HistoricallyCurious #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel

Perched above the Old Town, Heidelberg’s half-ruined castle has impressed everyone from kings and princes to the poet Goethe, novelists Victor Hugo and Mark Twain, and millions of visitors for whom the red sandstone walls clinging to the green hillside are the epitome of German romanticism. Even in ruin one of the great Renaissance landmarks of northern Europe suggests beauty, grandeur, and long vanquished empires. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #visitheidelberg #heidelberg4you #visitgermany #visiteurope #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel

#Freiburg cathedral is one of the great masterpieces of Gothic art in Germany. Its unique spire is of filigree stonework; the steeple sits on an octagonal belfry, which holds a historic 5-ton bell dating from 1258. In the aisles are 14th-century stained-glass windows. The high altar has an altarpiece built between 1512 and 1516 by Hans Baldung Grien. #historicgermany #WeAreGermany #visitfreiburg #visitbawue #visitgermany #visiteurope #HistoricallyCurious #wanderlust #traveltheworld #EuropeInsiders #discovergermany #meaningfultravel
