The iconic Sycamore Gap tree in northern England was cut down illegally overnight on Wednesday September 27. The Northumberland National Park Authority believe the tree was ‘deliberately felled’ and local police continue to investigate the act of vandalism. The tree, which was believed to be 300 years old, was located next to Hadrian's Wall built by the Romans in 122 A.D. It was one of the UK's most photographed trees and appeared in the 1991 Kevin Costner film "Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves." | September 28, 2023 | #GettyImages #GettyImagesNews 📷: @mitchelljeff and Ian Forsyth 🎥: Jeff J Mitchell 🎶: ‘Jupiter Aurora’ by David Celeste @epidemicsound 🖥️🎬: @lucianaghilino

By December 2023, there is a "high probability" that the lake will be 64 centimeters (approximately 2 feet) below the drought alert level, breaking the historic record set in 1996.
