So this is 40 🥳 Had you asked me decades ago what would I have planned for my 40th birthday, no doubt I would have said, I’d be abroad, somewhere sexy, sipping on cocktails, toes buried in white sands, with a good book in hand. However, as fate would have it, I am at home, with my babies, changing endless diapers and wiping throw up from my shoulders. The irony of it all is that I wouldn’t have it any other way. I did however, tell my husband that having two kids, back to back, right before my 40th birthday only means that I get to raincheck the sexy 4-0 plans. And I don’t care if it’s several years from now, I will celebrate my 40th the way I originally intended to! 😆 In the meantime however, I’m just going to soak up all this baby love. I have lost myself more times then I care to admit. I’ve cried, I’ve cussed, I’ve prayed myself through what at times feels like all hell breaking loose. Approaching almost 7 weeks postpartum and I picked up dumbbells with the intent to sweat for the first time in a longgg time AND IT FELT SOOO GOOD!! ✊🏽 I had 20 mins, if that! So the workout was straight to the point, and done with timed rest periods. Total Body Routine, using a pair of 15lbs DBs - 6 compound movements - 10 reps each - 45-60 seconds rest period - 3-4 sets Under 20mins! What’s my excuse?!! I’m back to feeling like myself again.. well kinda, sorta, but definitely on my way. I’m now 6 weeks postpartum and lemme tell you, it’s been a rough ride #iykyk 😵‍💫 My mommy body is both something I’m proud of but also something I want to improve. I’ve lost a lot of strength, my core strength specifically is at an all time low, my energy levels are minimal (due to the lack of quality sleep), body fat is up, muscle mass has decreased and all is to be expected but if you know me, you know this sh*t ain’t me. It’s time to get moving!! And I mean it when I say, the lack of physical activity has effected my mental health more than it has my ego’s need to want to “snap back”. More than ever I recognize I need to MOVEEEEE in order to feel good AND think good. Movement and being outdoors is a key component to my overall health so before folks tell me to “allow yourself to rest”, trust me, me rested hunni, me need to prioritize myself both physically and mentally now. ☺️ so expect to get sick and tired of me 😆 Shorts: @thickathleticsapparel
