@soliloquyjewelry For the ancient Celts, the beginning of August marked the first of three harvests. Also called Lughnasadh, August 1st was a day of rituals and offerings, of protection magic and abundance celebrations. Inspired by one ancient Celtic practice in particular, I’ve created a variation of this pendant for the last three Augusts now. Each Lughnasadh, families would brew ale together and wade into the ocean with it, pouring it out as an offering to a sea spirit called Seonaidh. They did this in hopes that she would continue to provide them with seaweed, which they valued highly for its use as a fertilizer. This piece is my tribute to the sea spirit Seonaidh and this ritual. A natural Australian opal is the centerpiece, with coloring and ripples reminiscent of the sparkling sea. Cast sterling shells and sea creatures surround the stone, accompanied by four faceted amethysts and handmade seaweed.
