This past weekend, I was honored with the Anokhi "Lifetime Achievement Award" celebrating 20 years of excellence in trailblazing and building the DressYourFace empire and making a permanent mark in the world of beauty arts and education. I cannot thank @anokhilifestyle @rajgirn enough for this honorable recognition, and all that she and her company has done over the last two decades to bring South Asian excellence to the limelight and encourage our brilliant community to keep shining. 20 years ago when I began my professional journey and launched @DressYourFace, I had no one to follow the footsteps of, no one to really look up to who looked like me or shared my experience as a young South Asian girl trying to make it in this industry. I had to fight to carve my own path and beat all the odds to prove my worth. I went on to become not only the first major South Asian beauty influencer, but also the first educator to teach large-scale hands-on masterclasses around the world, the first to create a live online beauty education membership platform, and now the first again to create my own beauty tutorial app which hit #1 in its debut week 🙏🏽 I didn't have a mentor when I started back then, but I made it a mission to be that person for others and pave the way for more successes and achievements to be made by my fellow brown girls and generations to come. @RajGirn Thank you for coming into my life and being the mentor I never had, and I promise to always do my part to uplift and empower my fellow South Asian women and all women around the globe to follow their dreams and achieve any goal they set out to conquer. This post was supposed to be a sweet memory, not a memorial 💔 I'm heartbroken to share that our dear Inder Mama/Nana has passed away. He was the last remaining sibling of my beloved Nani... Her big brother, and my Nana's best friend. He is the reason my Nana and Nani met, fell in love, and got married. Seeing him and my family just 2 months ago, after 25 YEARS, was what I was most looking forward to on our trip to India. I had spent a month in their house when I was just under 13 years old and formed my most cherished core memories there. Nani and Nana had come with me and my mom too. I had always yearned to go back... but since then, my Nani had passed away, and while Nana is still with us and going strong (thank you God🙏🏽) he is quietly fighting in stage 4, and life is not guaranteed for any of us. Then after Usha Mamiji (Inder Mama's wife who we loved dearly, pictured in last photo) passed away more recently, I felt major regret in my heart and knew I couldn't postpone this visit any longer. So, I finally made it happen and booked the flight. I could not wait to see them, and this time with a family of my own ♥️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 When I finally saw and embraced my Inder Mama, all the tears and emotions poured right out. I felt as if I was hugging Nani (I knew this was the closest thing I could get to hugging her 😭💔). Khushal recorded the whole moment (swipe to see), it was beautiful. Afterward Inder Mama told us this may be the last time we meet, and we quickly hushed him and I said no way, I'm coming right back in December! But he already knew 😔 This reunion went exactly how I had wished and imagined in my head... but even better. And I'll forever cherish every second. Here are some sweet memories from our time together just a couple of months ago at their house in Delhi, and of course all the amazing food and snacks they fed us! 🥰
