'Diplomacy I' belongs to a trio of works that represent Lynette Yiadom-Boakye's first major group compositions.⠀ ⠀ The paintings depict a group of suited delegates, recalling Marion Kaplan's photographs of African Heads of State at a summit in Uganda in 1967. Into each work, however, Yiadom-Boakye has inserted a single woman, here incongruously clad in pink.⠀ ⠀ Important conversations about race and gender lurk in the shadows of Diplomacy I; echoes of art history simmer amid rich, expressive brushwork. In an image of diplomatic relations, Yiadom-Boakye invites us to consider how stories we thought we knew might be retold.⠀ ⠀ This enigmatic portrait was included in Yiadom-Boakye's major retrospective show at Tate Britain.⠀ ⠀ Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, 'Diplomacy I' (2009). Estimate: £1,000,000-£1,500,000⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ 📍20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale: 28 June.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ #lynetteyiadomboakye

‘Grünes Feld’ (Green Field) (1969) is a rare early example of Gerhard Richter’s coloured photorealist landscapes. ⛰⠀ ⠀ Bisected across the horizon line, the work depicts a rolling green pasture beneath a mottled sky.⠀ ⠀ Based on a photograph documented in his compendium Atlas, it replicates the blurred surface of the original snapshot, the scene dissolving into an abstract haze.⠀ ⠀ Formerly on loan to the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the work captures the birth of landscape painting in earnest within Richter’s practice.⠀ ⠀ Gerhard Richter (1932), ‘Grünes Feld (Green Field)’ (1969). Estimate: £4,000,000 – £6,000,000. 📍20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale: 28 June.⠀ ⠀ #GerhardRichter #Richter

The monumental 'Castigno' is an impressive example of Aboudia's dynamic and layered works that depict contemporary society in his hometown Abidjan, Ivory Coast.⠀ ⠀ Drawing inspiration from 'Nouchi' iconography and characters in his community, Aboudia layers newspaper and magazine collage with crayon and oil to realise energetic and powerful vistas in his signature innocent style, skillfully exploring everyday life in Abidjan amongst the unrest and violence since 2011.⠀ ⠀ Castigno is presented in the Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Sale which is currently on view until 29th June at Christie's London.⠀ ⠀ Aboudia (B. 1983), 'Castigno' (2021). El Greco's remarkable panel 'The Entombment of Christ'. ⠀ ⠀ In a stark landscape, with the three crosses of Golgotha silhouetted against the sky, the artist gathers crowds of mourners around the body of Christ as he is lowered into the tomb, while the Magdalene and Virgin Mary, together with a group of female attendants, grieve. ⠀ ⠀ Dating to relatively early in El Greco's career, it was probably painted shortly after his arrival in Rome and shows the influence of his Venetian and Roman periods, encapsulated by the inclusion of a portrait of Titian in the centre of the panel – who had a profound impact on the artist – in the guise of Joseph of Arimathea.⠀ ⠀ El Greco (1541-1614) 'The Entombment of Christ'. Estimate: £6,000,000 – £8,000,000. ⠀ ⠀ 🗓 Old Masters Part I: 6 July, London. ⠀ ⠀ #ElGreco #ClassicWeek⠀

Jacob Grimmer specialised in sets of paintings depicting the Twelve Months of the Year and the Four Seasons. 🌎⠀ ⠀ Painted in both circular and rectangular formats, these works formed part of a long tradition of presenting the calendar months visually, typically depicting activities associated with each season with these two paintings presenting the months of January and October.⠀ ⠀ In 'The month of January, with the sign of Aquarius' you will notice the zodiac sign visible in the sky. Typical of Grimmer is the slightly elevated vantage point and high horizon. Above we see a view of a city, possibly Grimmer's hometown of Antwerp, visible through the atmospheric wintry fog.⠀ ⠀ Jacob Grimmer, 'The month of October, with the sign of Scorpio'. Estimate: £40,000-£60,000 and ‘The month of January, with the sign of Aquarius'. Estimate: £60,000-£80,000.⠀ ⠀ 📍Alice & Nikolaus Harnoncourt: Artists Collecting Art: 30 June11:00 AM - 14 July11:00 AM BST Online.⠀ ⠀ #jacobgrimmer

Join art critic and broadcaster, Alastair Sooke as he delves into the remarkable re-discovery of two Rembrandt portraits. The last time the pair of portraits were seen in public was in June 1824 when offered for sale at Christie’s, described simply as ‘Rembrandt – very spirited and finely coloured’. Acquired in that sale on behalf of an ancestor of the present owners, the pair has remained in the same collection ever since, and in all that time was never seen by scholars until it was rehabilitated to Rembrandt by the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. We now know a great deal about these portraits and about the sitters and their close relationship to Rembrandt’s family in Leiden. Their early history has also been unearthed, thus establishing a virtually unbroken line of provenance that charts their ownership from the sitters to the present day. Rembrandt Harmensz. Van Rijn (1606-1669), Portrait of Jan Willemsz. van der Pluym (1565-1644) and Portrait of Jaapgen Carels (1565-1640). Estimate: £5,000,000-£8,000,000. 📍The pictures will tour to Amsterdam from 21 to 24 June, ahead of returning to London for the Classic Week pre-sale exhibition in London, on view from 1 to 6 July. 🗓Old Masters Part I: 6 July, 2PM BST. #Rembrandt #ClassicWeek #OldMasters
