El Yunque National Forest is a top attraction for tourists. Perfect for nature lovers! 🍃 __ Tips: 1. Must make a reservation beforehand (price: $2). 2. Hike to Mt Britton Tower for a higher level view of the island if it's not cloudy. The hike is partially shaded with lush green foliage. Takes 45 to 60 minutes roundtrip. 3. If you're not up for a hike or it's too cloudy at Mt Britton Tower, check out Yokahu Observation Tower for picturesque views of the sea and forest. 4. Stop at Sierra Palm for a restroom break, smoothie, lunch, or picnic. 5. For a quick hike to some waterfalls, stop at Juan Diego Creek. Takes 2 minutes to the smaller falls. More strenuous to reach the bigger falls. 6. Rent a car to maximize your time and see all what the forest has to offer. It's an hour drive one-way from San Juan. Besides Old San Juan and El Yunque, the other experiences I enjoyed while in Puerto Rico were Bacardi's mixology class, an outdoor salsa class, bioluminescent kayaking at night, and eating bacalaitos in Piñones. I'm sorry but I didn't enjoy mofongo (mashed green plantains mixed with pork rinds). The only mofongo combination that was delicious was mashed yellow plantains and yuca. Most hikes I do are solo but on this one, I was with a good friend of mine. While hiking through the lush green forest 3100 feet (945 meters) above sea level, I almost lost my phone to mother nature. I saw 2 to 3 snakes and stepped back. I'll admit that I don't know diddly squat about wildlife. No clue if they were venomous or harmless. Luckily a guy was willing to assist with finding my phone. It was buried with leaves and dirt in between harmless garter snakes.
