We said goodbye to our little bitty pretty one this week. 🤍🤍🤍 Miley was with us for almost all of her 14 years. She was born on a farm in Ohio in April of 2009 and came to live with us just two months later in a June. She loved laying in the sun, climbing anything (including trees), hunting in the back yard, licking our bowls and plates clean when we finished eating anything, and laying on any piece of paper that I needed in that moment. She had a great life but her body broke down. She could no longer get around and do all the things she loved. I know we made the right decision, but her absence is profound. I created this one of a kind necklace to mark the Full Moon in Scorpio, also known as the flower moon, happening on May 5, 2023. Electroformed flowers and ferns have been combined with a round rainbow moonstone cabochon, a tiny pink amethyst point, two tiny clear quartz points, a small clear quartz druzy “crystal ball” and a chunky raw emerald. I hand stamped the phrase “live by the moon” along with the date the full moon will be exact (5.5.23) in sterling silver and hid it on the back. This very special necklace has been paired with a chunky aged copper curb chain finished with a toggle clasp that I crafted featuring an electroformed clear quartz point. I do it all for love. I do all of it sober. I do it all for us…for my kids, for present day and young me, for my mother, my grandmother, and future generations. It’s healthy to step back sometimes and give myself love for how far I’ve come. These pictures are of my three kids as little ones, me as a baby and my maternal grandmother as a toddler clutching her little doll. The pictures of my kids were taken when I was about two months sober. Everything I am, that I do and that I have (and don’t have) in my current life is because of my sobriety. Everything. Like many of us, I come from a long line of wounding and I’ve unknowingly perpetuated that wounding at times. I had wounded my kids in ways I never wanted to by the time these pictures were taken. I’ve unfortunately wounded them since. But, I’ve also made changes and become someone I never knew I could be. Someone who shows up for them and myself in ways that I wasn’t taught. The picture of my grandmother was taken not long after she lost both of her parents in two days during the Spanish Flu pandemic. Their deaths and my grandma’s subsequent developmental traumas and unhealed wounds of abandonment sent ripples through the generations moving forward. They affected my mom, they affect me and they affect my children. I can’t change that past, but sobriety gives me a chance to be aware of and change these patterns. I actively work day in and day out to process wounding that happened long before I was born.. some days I feel overwhelmed by the weight of what I was born into and other days I feel honored and grateful to do this work for those who couldn’t in the past and for future generations. Whatever feelings come, I do the simple act of showing up, putting one foot in front of the other. It seems like nothing is happening day to day, but when I look back I can see the miracles that have unfolded.
