In the heat of the moment I don’t possess this skill, and I can admit that. I heavily got checked the other week by my daughter who had a meltdown. And in response to me yelling, yelled back.. I got so furious because “how dare a kid talk to me in the way that she did” I kept ‘screaming’ at her that she cannot talk to me like that, my emotions were on 10 I just wanted to make her shut up and stop, instead she continued to yell back. It wasn’t until she yelled out with the upmost passion “it’s YOU who makes me like this, I’m like this because of YOU, because YOU are doing this!” that I realized what actually, in fact, I AM teaching her. She was holding a mirror up to my face. She was showing me what I show her.. such a powerful moment that had me speechless because I couldn’t fight her argument… she was correct. She is only a reflection of me, how could I not expect my kid to yell and be stubborn when I do exactly those things. It reminded me of the oh so well known fact that we must lead by example. Kids become what they see… we must show our children how to successfully, and with kindness, resolve conflict. We must show them how to allow others/ or not allow others rather, to treat us. We must show them the way.. it is a hard pill to swallow when you realize that you have things to learn. That you have to go back and dig into your past to find out what made you have these characterstics/patters and behaviors. How can you raise someone to become a decent human when you aren’t one? It is impossible. We as adults must work on becoming better, identifying your flaws is the first step. I’m so happy I have kids to teach me so much about myself and literally show me where I must improve as a human. #Parenting #healing #goodparenting
