Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a lock to emerge atop the box office for the extended July 4 holiday weekend. The follow-up to a movie franchise that began in 1981 with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, once again finds Harrison Ford (and separately Karen Allen) playing a celebratory exit for a role he personified over four movies. The new release features British co-star Phoebe-Waller Bridge, who most-recently wrote the No Time to Die screenplay. Thursday previews saw Indiana Jones 5 generate more than $7.2 million in ticket sales across select theaters. Walmart had Disney’s Mickey & Friends: 10 Classic Shorts Vol. 2 Blu-ray with an exclusive pack-in enamel pin based on the box art for $19.96. However, many stores didn’t stock the title, and the title’s listing on Walmart’s website didn’t have an option buy it online. The film stars Melissa Barrera (Scream VI) as the title character, a fiercely independent woman who is forced to flee her home in the Mexican desert following the brutal murder of her mother. After surviving a terrifying and dangerous illegal border crossing into the United States, she is confronted by a lawless volunteer border guard who cold-bloodedly murders two other immigrants in her group. Netflix’s new actioner Extraction 2, again headlined by Chris Hemsworth, proved a winner among the streamer’s U.S. subscribers. New data from Samba TV found that 2.1 million U.S. households streamed Extraction 2 on Netflix during the movie’s first four days (L+3D window). That compared with about 500,000 U.S. households that streamed the original 2020 movie during the same period of time. The first Extraction went on to be streamed by about 90 million households worldwide during the first 30 days — a Netflix record at the time. The sequel is on track to be streamed by more than 15 million U.S. households in the first 30 days. While the debut for the Extraction sequel is strong, it is almost 50% less than the 3.2 million U.S. households that streamed Netflix’s The Mother during the L+3D window. Marvel Studios June 22 announced that anti-superhero movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to arrive at digital retailers on July 7, and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray Disc and DVD Aug. 1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently the year’s No. 2 theatrical movie, with estimated domestic box office revenue of $346.4 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The film’s theatrical take is only surpassed by The Super Marios Bros. Movie, which has generated $572.4 million in North American theaters since its April 5 opening. Curiously, the street date for the Steelbook is listed as June 6 at Bestbuy.com, through last week the listing still had no announced street date well after the studio announced a June 13 release date for the title at large.
