This is something I started in 2003, so this is the 20th edition already, oh my god. After I quit from a radio show I had back then, I started preparing a compilation to give it as a present to some friends. It was they way I had to share my favorite music with other people, time before social networks appeared. I burned a 2CD and asked someone to make an art for it. With the time it went digital, first as a downloadable mp3 album, and later as a playlist for most popular streaming services. The spirit is more that of a mixtape than a playlist. And about the selection… well it’s not easy. I want to keep it short and listenable. I want to keep it REALLY diverse. Besides discovering other people some songs that are incredible for me, the aim of this, is to get minds open regarding styles and popularity (trying to erase those mainstream/outsider boundaries). I love to think people discovering and approaching things far from their listening habits thanks to this. This is not my bestofthieyear list, nor my favorite songs of the year. As you can see art is once again incredible. This year I asked @josu_tece and I can’t be more happy with the result. I think it reflects perfectly the spirit! And finally, thanks for reading all this, for staying all the year at the other side liking, commenting, discovering to me so many great records and songs. 🚨Please Read🚨 Here it is!!! laguerradelasagalaxias2020 is already available in all platforms (link in bio). As most of you already know, this is not an end-of-the-year-list, nor a playlist. It started 19 years ago as a 2CD compilation I curated and burned for my friends. And so is this, something I prepared for you 😘. I managed to maintain the tradition for all this years, although the physical format disappeared some years ago. Within all things related to sharing music I do, this is the most special for me. My goal with all the time I spend preparing this, is to share the music that moved me trough this past year, a quite particular one. I would love if you could just enjoy half of what I did preparing it. The compilation is really diverse, just as my musical taste, so for me, it would be perfect if you could really open your ears and brain, and let music touch you, even if its not the type of music you usually listen. The order of the songs is quite deliberated and I think it helps to follow it in order to enjoy it as the itinerary I devised. My IG feed became my main discovering source and most go the records included here were in some of your accounts first, so many of you are an important part of this edition. 𝔽𝕣𝕖𝕕 𝕒𝕘𝕒𝕚𝕟.. & 𝔹𝕣𝕚𝕒𝕟 𝔼𝕟𝕠 – “𝕊𝕖𝕔𝕣𝕖𝕥 𝕃𝕚𝕗𝕖” (𝕋𝕖𝕩𝕥 ℝ𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕣𝕕𝕤, 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟛) - 𝔸𝕞𝕓𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕥, 𝔻𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕞 ℙ𝕠𝕡, 𝔼𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕚𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕒𝕝 This is something totally different to what Fred Again… has been doing so far. It still has that melancholic vibe around, which I love, but in this record, made along with the ambient father and incredible visionary Brian Eno, the music is much closer to ambient that to the upbeat electronics Fred used to release. It’s funny because the reviews that his is getting are awful (although it is one the Boomkat store, it doesn’t even have a word written about it 😭). I don’t know if its related to the aristocracy status of Fred and his family, because they hate the Aftual Life series so much, or just because they really find this record as empty as they say, maybe its just that liking Fred Again is not cool, but I love it. With only some minutes of her video “Studio Live” or his NPR Tiny Desk performance you can see how talented he is. Here his music sounds calmed and soothing, production is smart, and the record sounds dynamic and even epic sometimes on this vinyl released by the label run by Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden. A quite special album today. So special that the Mancunian record label Sferic, released a Hip-Hop album. The house for Romeo Poirier, Perila, Space Afrika or TIBSLC released this debut album by NYC artist Yungwebster. Plugg production, vocoder vocals in an immersive album that settles a low cooking and smoking mood from the beginning. I really loved this one, if you’re into any kind of Hip-Hop music, you’ll love this one. ℙ𝕁 ℍ𝕒𝕣𝕧𝕖𝕪 - “𝕀 𝕀𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕤𝕚𝕕𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕠𝕝𝕕 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣 𝕕𝕪𝕚𝕟𝕘” (ℙ𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕚𝕤𝕒𝕟 ℝ𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕣𝕕𝕤, 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟛) 𝔸𝕣𝕥 ℝ𝕠𝕔𝕜, 𝕊𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕖𝕣-𝕊𝕠𝕟𝕘𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕖𝕣 I love the music by the British artist Polly Jean Harvey since I saw her live back in 1998 (how old I feel 😅) After that early era of anger and raw riffs, I loved how she transformed in “Let England Shake” an album I’d recommend if you skipped, even more than its new one. But this “Inside the old year dying” has many songs that remind me that spirit, at least 4-5 songs that are for me within the best songs written by PJ. You have some clips on the post. 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕊𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕚𝕒𝕝𝕤 - "𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕊𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕚𝕒𝕝𝕤" (𝕋𝕨𝕠-𝕋𝕠𝕟𝕖 ℝ𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕣𝕕𝕤, 𝟙𝟡𝟟𝟡) 𝕊𝕜𝕒 We knew about the passing of Terry Hall, the vocalist of The Specials by the end of last year. Some years ago, in 2019 we got this beautiful reissue of their seminal record, by the 40th anniversary. It’s one of the best ska revival records of all time and a good starting point to this genre to the people more into punk or other British music. Its mastered halfspeed at Abbey Road studios and played at 45rpm. 𝔸𝕝𝕓𝕖𝕣𝕥𝕠 𝕃𝕚𝕫𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕒𝕝𝕕𝕖 - "ℍ𝕒𝕚𝕫𝕖𝕥𝕩𝕖" (ℍ𝕖𝕘𝕠𝕒, 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟛) 𝔸𝕞𝕓𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕥, 𝔽𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕥𝕙 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕, ℕ𝕖𝕨 𝔸𝕘𝕖, ℙ𝕣𝕠𝕘𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝔽𝕠𝕝𝕜 Haizetxe is an archival album released early this year. Its music was recorded between mid 80s and 90s in the Basque Country. If you like music Jon Hassel, Eno, Harold Budd, Beverly Glenn-Copeland or the also Spanish Suso Saiz. Alberto’s music reflects calm, focus and intimacy. Ethereal and atmospheric, his pieces operate within the digital as well as the analogue realm in equal measures. Sampling, Midi sequencing and field recordings are the instrumentation used in these 15 songs recorded on a four track reel to reel tape. It’s so nice to discover such interesting music made so near and that remained almost unknown until now… Thanks to Hegoa for bringing this sounds to many of us for the first time. I had a beautiful time yesterday at VOLUMENS festival. My set was the opening act for a very appealing lineup of a festival that takes place in several venues and where IA was the theme this year. I choose dub as a starting point and all Manchester electronic scene to give form to my set. I felt comfortable and I think it worked pretty well and was aligned with festival aesthetics. It was too early as the festival opened its doors at the same time my set started, but really thankfull to all the people at Volumens that gave me the chance to show another of my musical faces and made me feel at home. 𝔹𝕒𝕣𝕜 ℙ𝕤𝕪𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕚𝕤 - "𝕊𝕔𝕦𝕞" (𝟛𝕣𝕕 𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕟𝕖, 𝟙𝟡𝟡𝟚) ℙ𝕠𝕤𝕥-ℝ𝕠𝕔𝕜, 𝔸𝕞𝕓𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕥, 𝕁𝕒𝕫𝕫 “Hex”, the debut album by British band Bark Psychosis uses to appear in most of the best post-rock albums of all time. Scum was released two years before Hex and is one of those songs that remained hidden for me until the repress of this EP (which only comprises this song played normal and backwards). 21 minutes of a journey that travels from Jazz to experimental rock, field recordings, ambient, and everything in between. If you like “Spirit of Eden” by Talk Talk, or Slint’s “Spiderland” I think youlll like this one. 𝕊𝕡𝕚𝕧𝕒𝕜 - "𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕎𝕚𝕟 𝔸𝕘𝕒𝕚𝕟" (𝔼𝕔𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕔, 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟛) - 𝔸𝕞𝕓𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕥/𝔼𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕚𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕒𝕝 ℙ𝕠𝕡, 𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕞𝕒𝕝 𝕎𝕒𝕧𝕖 Three years after the amazing “Μετά Το Ρέιβ” (and with a beautiful tape in the meantime), the Cypriot artist Spivak returns with this incredible album. The album has the perfect tempo for me. The opener song is my favorite. Maria’s voice drowned in autotune with the words of Christos Kyriakides and a subtle but epic production (that guitar by the end🙈). It’s one of my favorite songs of the year. Altough the record has some upbeat tracks with more drums and bass, my favorite songs are the rawest. The ones where voice and guitar are the main sounds. But it’s true that what I love about the record is the different sounds and moods you can find and how they have been sequenced. You have some clips to check. I hope you like as much as I do.
