Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Yunzi @joysofyz

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Hello! I’m Yunzi, a 22-year-old Malaysian from KL studying in NTU Singapore. I’m finally year 4 next year, graduating with bachelor of Information Engineering and Media (which some NTU students probably never heard about it *sad*).

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

From the course I’m studying, it’s already quite obvious that I like IT. I like designing. Seeing graphics, mobile apps and websites that are done in a high user interactions and user experience manner is too good to be true. I also like photography, however, my photos posted on Instagram are normally taken using Note5 (previously note2) as camera is too bulky to bring along everywhere.

I found myself posting more general photos in my life, like daily highlights which I hope to remember them myself when scrolling through the pictures. Photos such as my dogs (I got 2!), myself (when I’m in the mood), my artworks and mostly FOOD! I loveeeee eating (limited to good food)!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I only post about things that make me happy, hence the word “joys”. Joysofyz is a combination of joys + of + yunzi (in a shortform).

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I only use Snapseed to edit my photos. I did bought Vsco SE filters before but the latest updates of Snapseed are so convenient that I simply left only 1 photo editing app at my home screen.

Normally I use “selective” feature or “brush” dodge and burn feature to change brightness and contrast of certain parts of the picture. Next, I will tune images by pressing auto-adjusted, lower warmth and ambiance slightly, then I’m done! Editing structure and sharpness can be touched up when uploading onto Instagram.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I like Brenda (IG: @brenwho ) for her minimalism style. Her fashion style is like any other girls daily wear, but the way she always chooses white backdrop for her objects and crops her photos into the good composition, manage to make her photos stand out from the rest.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Be yourself. Take photos that you like, edit them in the style you like. There is no need for you to replicate other people.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I gained most of my followers when I got featured by some photography accounts previously. That was the time when I posted slightly creative photos taken mostly using my camera in a minimalist style, during a semester break when I was bored with nothing to do.

I love to share my experiences with other people, allow people to take in my reviews as consideration, which hopefully help them in their daily life or decision-making.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Well, a picture is worth a thousand words. I like keeping the contents of my photos more original (in a decent way), so that I can remember how the surroundings and atmosphere was like during the captured moment. To me, a decent camera is a must so that more details can be captured for people to make their own judgement without reading the caption.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
