Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Sean Davey @sean_davey

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Im from Tasmania, Australia which is one of the most most naturally beautiful places on earth. I started photographing one afternoon in late October, 1977 after coming home from school, looking ot go for a surf, but the waves were tiny at just 6 inches in size. It was that moment that I ran home and grabbed the old Kodak Instamatic cam. I went back to the beach, knelt down to compose the picture and took just one image. At the time, it seemed like such a cool picture that’s what started it for me. Since then, I had a magazine career that spawned more than 140 magazine covers and now a days I’m mainly selling my imagery as fine art prints and canvas and am doing pretty well at it. I’m also a product ambassador doe Epson.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My interest these days is mainly free range nature photography. I have a bit of a niche with shooting a lot of my imagery from a water perspective. I prefer to shoot mostly with the coming sunrise. It tends to be the most beautiful time of the day at the beach with a clean fresh beach and little to nobody around.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

In this case, it’s just my name.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I like to use Photoshop to edit my work cleanly and precisely.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

There’s a lot of grammers out there that I like. Generally, I’m inspired by those who are dedicated to their craft and I always like to see originality as opposed to people shooting the same old thing that every one else shoots. Some fellow grammers who’s work I admire are:
@chrisburkhard
@stugibson
@tedgrambeau
@coryscottimagery

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

The new Canon 5D MKIV. Best camera in their line up for sure.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

It’s cool being able to turn people on to good stuff. I personally wouldn’t endorse anything that I didn’t like myself, but when I find something I really like, I’m definitely happy to put it out there for others to discover also.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Be real. People want to be able to cut through all the BS and get to what’s authentic. Sometimes, I have to remind myself that I live in what most folks consider a true paradise and what is a normal every day deal for me can be life changing moments for others to experience themselves.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It’s essential to maintain the highest quality on what you put out there and I’m all about being original. I’d much rather take a chance of getting the one really different image as opposed to shooting dozens of high quality images that much more normal. Originality is high on my list for sure. One of my motos has always been "Shoot different" Good example. The surf is really good and there’s 10 photographers on the beach. I know that just about all of them are using shutter speeds of around 500-2000th of a second, so I’m much more likely to go for something like a 60th down to an 8th of a second. My images are going to be completely different to theirs and even if someone else there is using similar methods to me, the randomness of the results would ensure that we didn’t get similar images hardly at all.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Despite the sometimes free gear that come about from such partnerships, It’s fun to share with my followers, those things that I like. In fact it’s easy when you really like something.
