Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Peter Brooker @human_research

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m Peter, the Editor of Human Research, an online lifestyle blogging site. I come from Cambridge but spend most of my time in the Hub of humanity, London. I like Bond films, peated whisky and Russian girls.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Mainly post about fashion and style. Although I have a thing for dilapidated buildings and ruins. I travel abroad a fair bit so I find sometimes the scenery and ‘the shot’ benefits more without me being in it.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I liked the name Local Research, but someone had already taken it. I wanted something that meant everything and nothing at the same time.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Just the one that comes free on the mac. I don’t use filters, either on Instagram or the Mac. But I do sometimes notch the light up and down and play with the colours.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I really like what @theeverydayman does, he’s got an eye for a great shot and doesn’t fanny about getting the shot. I’ve seen him walk in, walk out and order a drink whilst other people play with filters and apertures etc. For the absolute professional styler, @hawkinsandshepherd knocks it out the park.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I would try not making every shot about them.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Not sure I’m influencing anything in truth, but I enjoy the community. I enjoy all feedback and I like seeing some of my clients I’ve collaborated with build a bigger audience through my contributions.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

For brands, running campaigns, look for the influencers that can do a bit of everything. For example I host podcasts and write for a couple of other magazines. I never get asked if there is anything else I can do for a brand such as video content, (which I also do). There’s so many other angles to getting eyeballs on your product.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Make it congruent. People check your page out for a reason, if you suddenly start taking pictures of your cat or Christmas tree, it’s a turn off. (By the way I don’t always practice what I preach).

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I enjoy the creative process, help building an audience for them. (I mainly work with upcoming brands so doing everything on a shoe-string budget whilst maintaining great quality is the biggest challenge).
