Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kolbi Lloyd @kolbilloyd

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m Kolbi, I’m a PNW native, Born and raised in the Portland, Oregon area. I currently live and reside in Beaverton. I just launched a creative outdoor lifestyle brand with my best friend called Wayward & Wild, that’s been taking up a lot of my time, but it’s incredibly awesome to work for yourself. I get really excited when I see other people wearing gear and designs I created.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love anything outdoors and travel related, as well as anything creative. I really enjoy hiking, any board sports, and anything that has to do with water. Almost everything on my personal Instagram is landscape photography related, capturing the scenes of the places I’ve been in my adventures. If you check out @waywardandwild on Instagram, my creative apparel line, you’ll find my more creative side showing through. It’s more portrait based creative apparel shots mixed in with landscape photography.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I figured it was easiest to just use my name, it’s easy for people to find me that way. Plus, it’s easy to identify who I am as a person if you want to find me on any other social media outlet.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I’m honestly all over the place with the photo editing and haven’t really picked one routine. I don’t really use any filters, I edit mostly on my phone through Snapseed, VSCO, and an app just called Photo Editor-. I enjoy the convenience and accessibility of my phone, to snap, edit, and share.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Oh my gosh there are so many. I love the variety of how people express themselves through photos. If I’m going to pick a few that come to mind with similar landscape photography interests, I really enjoy the feed of my best friend @trailthesun, @erinoutdoors, @ericaleecraig, @framesbyjjames. I like when the personality of the individual shows through vs the curated accounts that sometimes (not always) lack a strong individual personality.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Any outdoor activity. People thoroughly underestimate the healing powers of the outdoors, especially when it’s a lot easier to zone out with Netflix. I know people that get discouraged because “they’ve never done it before” or “they don’t know where to start”. I was at that point once too, you know. Just get out there. Dive in. You wanna try Stand Up Paddle boarding, go do it. You want to try hiking 7 miles and you’e never hiked before, go do it. You’ll know if that’s right for you or not by the end. Learn through the experience. You only find what you like by trying things. Fear isn’t real.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Honestly, I’ve never really thought of myself as an influencer. I just do what I like. I use what I like, and if I support you and like what you do and it lines up with my interests and values, you’ll know.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

If you don’t like it, don’t rep it. seriously. If you don’t want to show nail polish related summer vibes for Walgreens because it doesn’t interest you, don’t do it. Your followers have a similar interest to you, that’s why they follow you. Don’t sell out.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I touched on that above with the previous question, but it’s a good reminder to remember to use what YOU like. Don’t try to be what you perceive “everyone else” likes, because you’ll head down a dangerous path with the upkeep of a fake persona, and we all know what isn’t real shows it’s true colors eventually anyway.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

It’s fun. I like helping people succeed. It opens gateways to meet others with similar interests and I love meeting new people.
