Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jen Bunce @Brubunce

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Aloha there! My name is Jen Bunce, and I am a travel blogger kicking it in Hawai’i right now. I am from Orange County, California, and decided to take the plunge and move to Hawai’i in December 2015. I currently live in Waikiki, (O’ahu), and blog about my aloha experience here! My dad used to take me to Hawai’i when I was younger, he loved Hawai’i so much, and it was always his dream to live here. After he passed away in 2005, I made a promise to him that I would live here one day. And I finally did it! He loved adventure and always appreciated the beauty and culture of Hawai’i. I wanted to relive that experience as an adult, and remember the deeper connection I felt with Hawai’i thanks to him. He is the reason why I love traveling and adventure so much! My niche as a travel blogger, is to help people learn about Hawai’i in a deeper way. Hawai’i is more than just expensive hotel stays, shopping, or $200 snorkeling trips, there are a ton of fun stuff to do around the islands, that are more rewarding, and most of the time free! Just blogging about what I have learned living here in the past year, helping others with the transition on how to move here, and all the dope places to check out! 2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love taking pictures, especially with my Gopro! I am always doing fun stuff around the island, as well as making sure to always catch a beautiful sunrise or sunset somewhere. I like to help inspire the uninspired, I am all about sharing the good vibes, and just wanting to influence people to follow their dreams or travel the world. I know that idea is already splattered all over Instagram, everyone trying to do the same thing, but I have had a lot of darkness in my past, and thought I was really stuck in this bad place in my life that I couldn’t imagine getting out of. But I chose to listen to my intuition and my heart, and follow my dream to travel the world and move to Hawai’i to heal. And now, I am in a really good happy place in my life and would like to share my story with the world. Just want to remind people that no matter where you are in your life, you can be happy, and change your life for the better. You just got to believe! And I feel like I really show that on Instagram being my true self, and in my own unique creative way.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

"Brubunce" is a nickname that my friends coined for me when I came back from traveling in South Africa. "Bru" is a slang term used in South Africa, like saying, "Bro," and Bunce is my last name. I am like a tomboy kinda girl, and most of my friends call me by my last name, so they coined that nickname for me when I came back home, "Brubunce." I would always call everyone, "BRU!" So, they turned around and started calling me Brubunce, and that nickname just somehow organically became a part of me.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Camera+, Instagram, and Instasize sometimes. For my website I use Adobe Lightroom.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I like a ton of Instagrammers, everyone I like inspires something different out of me, in regards to their photo styles, where they are traveling, how their share their story, I just really appreciate all sorts of people for their unique creative style. If I had to choose someone right now who I dig a lot, is @globetrotting_gingertravel. Her pictures are so beautiful and she is always so uplifting. I was really feeling low one week, just feeling like a struggling artist, and she posted something that really hit me in such a way that it reminded me that I was doing the right thing. That is why Instagram is so awesome, it connects people from all over the world, and allows people to be creative, and inspire people to travel the world, but it also can really help inspire people.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I just like being able to be creative in my own unique way, and really connect with people from all over the world just like me. And if I can give back to the world anyway that I can in a positive way, I feel like being an influencer helps give me a creative outlet to do that.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Just whatever message a brand is trying to say, make sure it is true and authentic, and can be something creative and different. That way you can find influencers to see what you are seeing and both can creatively make something beautiful that the world would love to see. I always get influenced by people, but I always stay true to whatever I am feeling or thinking in a creative way. I always listen to my heart and intuition, and whatever I am feeling or wanting to say, I express it to the world.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I am all about being true to yourself and creative in your own unique way. I always get inspired by other people’s photos, but I think it is important to not copy or try to do the same thing like everyone else. You can’t stand out of a crowd if you follow the same path as everyone else. I truly believe that we should all be encouraging of one another and embrace everyone’s different story they want to share. Just stick to your own style and creative voice in your head. If you truly love it and are passionate about what you are trying to say, your pictures and story will show that and people will respond to it.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love partnering with brands, and am always flattered by anyone that is interested in working together. They see something in me and we can find a way to be creative together and share it with the world.
