Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jack Dean @jkdw

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Im currently studying Media, Product Design and Literature in a small town in England. I was born in a town called Walsall then moved to Woodville at age 7 and I’ve been living here since, I’ve never felt like i fit in anywhere I’ve lived and I have dreams of moving to New York and working in media, but who knows what the future will hold. I love being in the face of challenge and difficulty because it reminds me of the vulnerability of life and the brevity of the human soul to overcome diversity.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I. LOVE. FASHION. It is my number one thing that actually makes me happy in life, as well as fashion I love making photographs that are aesthetically pleasing and portray a message or fantasy. I like to share my outfits and i think a lot of the photos i make are inspired by the glamourised 90’s pulp fiction style and craziness

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I wanted something memorable, short, and snappy. I thought of JKDW as it was an enigma and could be interpreted a few different ways. The first being JK DW (Joke, Don’t Worry) as a comment on not taking life too seriously as that has always been my motto, and the second interpretation being just a random assortment of letters, i wanted it to include my initials too which is why JD is in the mix.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

When I’m working on a photo that i especially love or needs more accuracy as i tend to create weird edits i will use photoshop. However for daily use i use Snapseed – mainly focusing on colour correction and the burning / exposure tool, its also good for adding text and lens blurs, it has a lot of really good features. Then i sometimes use Picsart when I’m either combining two pictures, I’m adding lens flares, or i need one of the cool pop filters they have – this app also has a huge assortment of features that are really cool.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

The Instagram page i really have adored from my beginnings has been Gallucks, however my favourite Instagram page changes constantly as i follow over 900 people that I love and i have to constantly try to keep that number down. Instagram is so packed full of inspiring people and its hard to just pick one.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Outfit Of The Days, whenever you’re out with a friend or you’re wearing an outfit that you love try to take a nice picture of it and post it, they look really good in a feed and show that you have diversity. Whenever possible get a friend to take the picture as it will be better quality than auto-timed photos.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

being able to achieve things that I couldn’t otherwise, It also seems to give an air of inspiration and stability to me in my everyday life.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Don’t just work with anyone, your product has to naturally blend into their identity online and not seem un-natural or ”product placement-ey” you don’t want to scare the audience by making it seem forced, campaigns usually work better when the product suits the influencer.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Its always Important to have quality original content, especially in a market where its so competitive to be the first to do something, or the best at your game. At all times be true to yourself and draw inspiration from the beautiful world around you, even if that inspiration is drawn from a place of darkness.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Being able to spread their content and products to a wider audience that can also experience them with me, and to have fun! I also love showing how products can incorporate beautifully into someones lifestyle through photography.
