Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Geraldine @gera.shen

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Hello! I’m Geraldine and I’m a fully grown independent working adult. 🙂 I have been in the Content Marketing & Editorial field for about 3 years now, and am from sunny Singapore.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My Instagram is really a reel of images of the world through my eyes and moments I want to capture and remember forever. So there are my friends, food, my 3 cats and my amazing fiance – as well as some random sights here and there.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My nickname is “Gera” and the Mandarin version of my surname is “Shen”. So there you go!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Well, for some beautifying I use Meitu Xiu Xiu! While for creating collages, I use Pic Jointer. They’re both highly intuitive apps! For colour editing, I do it directly on Instagram.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

This sounds pretty far-fetched, but I really love @natgeotravel. I simply love the world and find many things beautiful – and they can give me insights on things I don’t get to see on my own. Plus I’m not the very outdoorsy sort… But I inspire to also create images with real stories behind them.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Hmm I guess it would be to use proper hashtagging. Not that I’m a pro at this myself, but it’s really something we need to harness better.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Being able to evoke emotion in my readers! And of course, always love the free stuff.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think that sometimes it is worthwhile for the influencer to throw in one or two “bad points” of the brand that won’t hurt too much – just to make it more realistic. Nothing is 100% perfect! Otherwise their brand won’t ever change, yes?
Example if I were to feature a makeup product, I’ll rave about how great it is at making my skin soft and supple – but will probably say wish it came in travel sizes or even prettier colours.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Copying is a HUGE NO-NO!!! I’m very against it. I get positively disgusted when sites copy my content and just want to claim credit for it. It’s repulsive and annoying. Honestly, if you’re unable to create original content – then don’t create a content site. Create a ‘curated content’ site or something; don’t take someone else’s baby and pass it off as your own.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I find it a great honour to be able to be a voice that connects the brand to the readers! It is like building a comfortable bridge of trust and care between the parties.
