Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Blaly Newton @alyjnewt

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a Texas girl who relocated to Boston to pursue a career in law. I currently am finishing up working as paralegal and starting law school in the fall. I focus on affordable housing and historic preservation real estate law, which I love!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love to cook and bake. My dad taught me at the young age of 4, and since then I have been writing my own recipes and (with much trial and error) loving them. I’m a huge foodie and traveler, so when I am not posting my own food, I am posting amazing food, drinks, and scenes of the world.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My handle is just my name, but the name “Blaly” came about in college, when I was able to drink the boys under the table. It ended up evolving into a term of endearment for the low-maintenance, fun-loving college kid I was.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I typically use Aviary, as I like to be able to control the light exposure on food photos when its too bright out. I try to avoid too much editing, food is so beautiful on its own.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I LOVE @onecrafdiygirl. She designs and makes her own clothes, but also picks out cute things from thrift shops and makes them her own. She promotes a great “New England lifestyle” on a budget. She is always so classy and put together!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Craft cocktails, especially with spices or herbs! Sage in cocktails is super in right now, and its delicious. I’ve also really enjoyed Aleppo pepper in cocktails. Food trends tend to blow up (hint hint, avocado toast), so be the first to post about your next perceived “food trend”!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Besides a social media influencer, I am also a Yelp Elite. I love being able to shine a light on the things I love in life, whether it be a store, a restaurant, even a hairdresser!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

The more freedom you give the influencer, the better. Quality influencers will want to forward their own “vibe”, so if you have too strict of guidelines, you’re not going to have as much interest. I love food, so let me incorporate food, etc.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Be confident! Invest time in a good camera, and go out and teach yourself. I didn’t have a niche at first, and sometimes am still figuring it out.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love being able to promote brands that I love, and discover others that I will end up loving. I am an honest influencer, and my reviews and comments are my own, despite the fact that the opportunity provided to me was free.
